Green house effect- El efecto invernadero
Green House Effect
Let's Read now
Our Earth is wrapped in a blanket of air called atmosphere, it is made up of many layers of gases. The Earth gets all its heat from the Sun, it is main source of energy for our planet. Sun- rays travel through the atmosphere and reach the Earth. The rays of the sun warm the Earth, few of these rays reflect back to the atmosphere. But he gases in the atmosphere, stop some of this reflected heat from escaping into space. Because of this our earth remains warm enough to live. These gases , which stop all the heat to escape to space, are called greenhouse gases . These include carbon-dioxide,methane ,nitrous-oxide etc.
This process among the sun, the atmosphere and the Earth is called the 'Greenhouse Effect', because it works the same manner as a greenhouse. The windows in a greenhouse play the similar role as the gases in the atmosphere, by keeping part of the heat inside the greenhouse.
Now due to certain activities on Earth, amount of green-house gases is increasing. This is leading to more trapping of heat. If all heat reflected from earth would be trapped by green-house gases & nothing would escape, this would lead to increase in Global temperature. This is known as Global Warming.
Few of the activities like increased no of factories, increased no of automobiles, burning of fossil fuels like diesel, petrol etc. is increasing amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This is also known as pollution. There are several kind of pollution like soil pollution, air pollution, water pollution etc.
On the hand, due to expanding cities, human-society is cutting down huge no of trees. Trees absorb carbon-dioxide thus reducing it from atmosphere.
So on one hand we are increasing sources of greenhouse gases but on the other hand we are reducing the absorbers of these gases. So people throughout the world are feeling the impact due to increased greenhouse gases. Temperature is going up & climate is changing very fast.
